Elmore James Tribute & Album Reviews

On Thursday, Andres Roots, Ismo Haavisto and Matias Partanen will begin a short Finnish tour, celebrating the centennial of influential slide guitarist and blues singer Elmore James (1918-1963).

The concerts are: May 10 at Roots Thursday @ Virasto in Lahti, May 11 at Suistoklubi in Hämeenlinna and May 12 at Ghettoblues @ Juttutupa in Helsinki. At the latter, the trio will be joined by Esa Kuloniemi & Little Willie Mehto. The band's only Estonian appearance will be at the Augustibluus Festival in Haapsalu on August 4.

You can read more about the tour HERE - the Blues-Finland.com article also includes reviews of the latest albums by both Haavisto and Roots. Of the Sawmill Roots Orchestra CD, Marko Aho writes: "A thorough understanding of blues and rock has always been apparent in Andres Roots' music. But where others would be content to use that knowledge to create dusty traditional goodies, trying to sound as authentic as possible, Roots has never hesitated to bring his blues into the 21st century."

Another review of the Sawmill album has been published by Barikada.com in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Dragutin Matošević writes: "[Andres Roots] is a musician who is synonymous with blues from Estonia. No one in Estonia does this better than him... This album is rich in dynamics, different rhythms, different atmosphere... An album that I would often like to return to." Read the full reviews HERE.
